There is a definite and indefinite article in Quertílian, both of which come in a different form depending on case. They are, however, not influenced by the number or the gender of the noun.
| indefinite | definite |
---|---|---|
nominative | ai | te |
genitive | é | mé |
dative | mai | mi |
accusative | oi | o |
locative | tei | ne |
prepositional | lai | la |
Articles are always right in front of the noun and they cannot be separated from it even by an adjective (the adjective follows the noun).
Andé em ai qlúr. It is a table.
Andé em te qlúr oriaw. It is the big table.
The zero article is used only with names, in all other cases an article is obligatory.
Mi em te qlúr lai sória. The table is made of wood. (lit. "From is the table a wood." Note the fronted preposition. )
